About Valuations
Tunbridge Wells Auctions operates in Kent and Sussex and is here to help.
A valuation is the first step to selling an item at auction. Valuations may be required for other purposes. Inherited items and collections may need to be valued for probate or insurance purposes.
We help with valuations of most things from single items to entire house contents and estates for:
- Sale by auction
- Insurance
- Probate
Your pieces will be examined by one of our professional valuers. We provide a valuation and an estimate of what we believe your pieces will sell for at auction. An auction estimate is a price range comprising a low and high value - for example, '£1,000 - 1,500'. This estimate is based on our experience, market conditions, and condition of the item.
Valuations are given by our professional valuers following inspection in person.
If you decide to sell an item with us, we will discuss a 'reserve' with you. The reserve is the minimum price at which an item can be sold.
A reserve can be 'fixed', ie; the bidding must reach that level in order to sell, or it can be 'discretionary', which means that the auctioneer can sell the item for around 20% less than the figure of the reserve. An item may also be sold without reserve at your discretion.
There are three ways to request a valuation - in person or online.
